What it pays for
The 9/11 Memorial Act Grant Program provides competitive grants for the continued operation, security, and maintenance of certain memorials of the events and victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Who can apply
Eligible entities are limited to official 501(c)3 organizations in existence on the date of enactment of the 9/11 Memorial Act and organized as follows:
(A) the focus of which is the operations and preservation of a covered memorial; and
(B) which is an organization described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 and exempt from taxation under 501(a) of that Code.
Eligible entities must own and/or operate a covered memorial, as defined by the Act.
How applications are judged
Selection criteria is set forth in the Notice of Funding Opportunity posted on grants.gov
Match
Recipient is required to provide a 1:1 cost share for every Federal dollar received. This is mandated in the Act.
Examples of funded projects
Fiscal year 2025: Funding supports the ongoing care of the memorial plaza at the 9/11 memorial and museum. Funding provides for maintenance of memorial pools and parapets at the site, and for security services at the memorial and museum.
Fiscal year 2026: Program has not yet selected projects for funding. Program anticipates funding projects that support the operation, security, and maintenance of certain memorials of the events and victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
