What it pays for

How applications are judged

Applicants are limited to the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority or the Central Basin Municipal Water District. Projects must improve the quality of the groundwater in the San Gabriel Basin, located in Los Angeles County, California. The scopes of work must address and be responsive to the authorizing legislation, the final engineering reports, and the appropriation ceiling.

Match

A minimum of 35 percent non-Federal cost share is required by Public Law 106-554, Sec. 110(a) (3) (B), as amended. The cost share can be provided from any non-Federal source; and, in accordance with Sec. 110(a) (3) (B) (iii), credit toward the non-Federal cost share can be given for the value of certain prior project expenditures.

Examples of funded projects

Fiscal year 2025: Design and build an interconnection to enable direct deliveries and water exchanges between the Salt River and Colorado River systems, using the existing 336-mile CAP Canal rather than requiring new canals or Fiscal year 2026: Funding supports reimbursement of eligible operation and maintenance costs for existing groundwater treatment and remediation facilities in the San Gabriel Basin. Activities include operation of groundwater extraction and treatment systems, utilities, treatment media replacement, equipment maintenance and replacement, water quality monitoring and testing, repairs, and other costs necessary to operate and maintain groundwater remediation facilities.
