What it pays for

To assist organizations that are regional and local, community based, and National, that develop, implement, carry out, or coordinate programs and/or activities to prevent or eliminate discriminatory housing practices as prohibited by the Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. 3601-3619), or State or local laws that provide substantially equivalent rights and remedies for alleged discriminatory housing practices.

Who can apply

The non profit organization eligible applicants are: Qualified fair housing enforcement organizations, other private nonprofit fair housing enforcement organizations, and nonprofit groups organizing to build their capacity to provide fair housing enforcement, for the purpose of supporting the continued development or implementation of initiatives which enforce the rights granted under title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 [42 U.S.C. 3601 et seq.], as amended.

How applications are judged

The selection criteria are based on rating and ranking by a Technical Evaluation Panel. Under this competitive process, applicants are ranked based on Rating Factors points, preference points, and past performance and applicant risk. The specific criteria and points assigned are listed in the Notice of Funding Opportunity.

The organization will also inform the public of their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act. Fiscal year 2023: A 12-month project that provides increased testing, intake, counseling and legal resources, focusing on fair housing education, testing, intake and referral for all protected classes, with targeted attention on the demonstrated need of the rights of disabled persons, people of color, and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and designed to heighten public awareness of the continued effects of housing discrimination in the metropolitan statistical area.
