What it pays for

SNAP State Administrative Expenses: Provide Federal financial assistance to State agencies for costs incurred to operate the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP Employment and Training (E&T) 100 Percent Federal Funds and Reimbursement for 50 percent of allowable expenses: Provide grants to States to provide E&T services to assist SNAP participants in moving towards meaningful employment. An E&T program may consist of many different types of components, including but not limited to: independent job search; job search training and support; workfare; educational programs to improve employability; work experience or training to improve employability; other employment oriented activities (e.g., job placement, supported work experience, Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA) services); and self�employment training. USDA provide States with 100 percent Federal funding for E&T based on a specific formula. USDA also reimburses States for 50 percent of certain allowable, reasonable and necessary E&T expenses that exceed their 100 percent grant. USDA also provides 50 percent reimbursement for transportation and childcare costs to ensure successful participation in E&T programs. States are not allowed to use 100 percent grants for participant expenses. The Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Grants (SNAP-Ed): Provide 100 percent Federal funding for States based on a specified formula for nutrition education for low income people through FY2025 .
