About this grant

Federal HUD money that Tennessee re-grants to smaller cities and counties for water and sewer work, community infrastructure, revitalization, and public health and safety projects. Each eligible city or county may submit one application per year, and the local share depends on the community's ability to pay.

Sullivan County: Who gets CDBG money here

Sullivan County: only Bristol, Johnson City (the part in Sullivan County) and Kingsport (the part in Sullivan County) get CDBG money directly from HUD. Groups there apply through those cities. The rest of Sullivan County (the county government and its other towns) applies to TNECD's state CDBG program. TNECD's CDBG program

Fiscal year 2024 CDBG from HUD: Bristol $226K; Johnson City $616K; Kingsport $451K.

34 of 112 Census block groups (neighborhood-sized areas) in Sullivan County are at least 51% low- and moderate-income. A CDBG project that serves an area usually needs that area to be at least 51% low/mod, so it depends on your exact service area, not the county. Check your area on HUD's CPD Maps.
