About this grant
The purpose of the BH2I program is to improve the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) individuals by expanding integrated, coordinated behavioral health care. The program supports Tribal and Urban Indian Organization (UIO) health systems in delivering culturally responsive, trauma-informed services that integrate behavioral health with primary care, nutrition, exercise, and social, spiritual, and cultural supports. The goal is to improve access to comprehensive behavioral health services, promote early identification and treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, strengthen care coordination, and improve overall health outcomes and quality of life.

Federally recognized Tribe as defined by 25 U.S.C. 1603 (14); Tribal organization as defined by 25 U.S.C. 1603 (26); Urban Indian organization as defined by 25 U.S.C. 1603 (29).

How applications are judged
The selection criteria are: Statement of problem(s) requiring solution; need for assistance; results or benefits expected from the project; approach or soundness of the applicant's plan for conducting the project; key personnel and their capability to carry out the project; and adequacy of management controls. Consideration will be given to the demonstrative aspects of the project and the compatibility of the project with the overall goals and objectives of the Indian Health Service.
