About this grant

This NOFO will provide supplemental funding to the currently funding twenty (20) CDC Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) to conduct Special Interest Projects (SIPs). The purpose of the SIPs is to inform public health practice through high-quality applied health promotion and disease prevention public health research in real-world settings to identify, design, test, assess, evaluate, disseminate, and translate interventions or resources to prevent and reduce risk for the leading causes of illness, disability, and death in the United States. The ten (10) SIPs that will be included in this NOFO are: (1) Automating Cancer Survivorship Care Plans: A Feasibility Study; (2) Medicare Data on Prostate Cancer Patterns of Care and Quality Indicators; (3) Planning Better Ovarian Cancer Care: Using State and Local Data to Improve Access to Gynecologic Oncologists; (4) Messaging about the benefits of and community-level approaches to reducing alcohol use for cancer prevention; (5) Demonstration of the use of cancer registry data to improve cancer clinical trial enrollment; (6) Visual Aids for Sunscreen Application; (7) Demonstration project for weather-related emergency preparedness and response plans for cancer prevention and control; (8) Developing a framework for improving prostate cancer care and informing support services; (9) Public Health Approaches to Hereditary Cancer Prevention, Detection, and Treatment; and (10) Research on Recent Developments and Emerging Issues in Chronic Disease Prevention and Care.

Eligibility (from the notice)

Only applicants approved for funding under CDC NOFO RFA-DP-24-004 Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research Centers (PRCs)* are eligible to apply for SIP supplemental funding under this announcement. On the SIP applicant's SF424 (R&R), the institution's legal name, EIN, and UEI (sections 8a, b and c of SF424) must match the information of the institution selected for funding under RFA-DP-24-004 as listed in the Notice of Award. How applications are judged

Prevention Research Center applications are reviewed on the basis of scientific/technical merit, with attention given to such matters as: (1) The degree to which the applicant satisfies the essential requirements and possesses other desired characteristics, such as depth, breadth, and scientific merit of the overall application relative to the types of research and demonstration projects proposed; (2) clarity of purpose and overall qualifications, adequacy and appropriateness of personnel to accomplish proposed prevention research projects and demonstration projects, and the nation's health priorities and needs; (3) ability to generalize, translate and disseminate to State or local health departments, boards of education and other appropriate national regional, and local public health agencies and organizations; (4) reasonableness of the proposed budget in relation to the work proposed.
